Search for housing on craigslist, warnings of possible scam artists?
I was recently browsing the housing section Craigslist to find a new place, and I ended up e-mailing someone on a property. They email me back saying they want me to do credit reports online before they can implement something more, to verify my eligibility as a tenant. I confess to be totally ignoring this kind of thing, but is this normal? The announcement, I had responded to images of good and all, but does not disclose the address … Is this a scam of some sort? Also, shortly after I send them by mail, the posting of this property has been removed, either by themselves or by Craigslist.
What concerns me, they made it so fast. They must make the credit report themselves do. They should also give you the address to see the property, check your photo ID and see your Social Security card when applying. To see the place, only a piece of photo ID is required. When they pull a request for you they will most likely check your income and your housing before credit. After that they will have you sign a lease. All this is for their and your protection.
